Work from Home

Hey You,

How are you doing today?

Believe it or not, it’s been 3 months since offices closed and mandated the Work from Home (WFH) policy. I am sure this changed everyone’s ‘work’ wardrobes.

Honestly, I think most employers do not even care about what you wear when you work from home as long as you get the work done. Besides, the current situation is stressful – the world is in a state of pandemic. So, if we as employees aren’t ready to dress up for the tech world, that’s completely OK! After all, taking a few days to relax and stay cozy can be good for mental health.

Given the fact that we are not physically meeting our coworkers, we tend to wear more casual and comfortable styles. I am assuming, a lot of us switched from formals to sweatpants and loungewear. Unless, you're one of those human beings who likes to wear a pair of jeans at home, pajama life has become the new norm for the rest of us.

Before you scroll down to see the looks, I want to emphasize that there are no hard and fast rules to dressing for work from home. Feel free to choose and wear an outfit that puts you in a right mindset. My work-from-home outfits go all the way from sweatpants to suit pants and my work station moves from desk to my bed.

On days when you don’t need to consult your clients or you are video conferencing with your colleagues but don’t want to get all dressed up, I recommend you the following work-from-home outfit ideas. May they inspire you to "get all dressed up".

1. Blazer over a Cami Pajama Top

If you are like me who has an IT job and likes to (or has to) keep the video camera on for whatever reasons, this look shows you how to look professional while also staying comfy. What I wear on most days is business on top and party on the bottom. And party to me equals ultimate comfort which can be sweatpants, pajama shorts or yoga pants at times.

Here is my first work from home look wearing Victoria’s Secret’s lightweight silky lace cami and a polka dot satin short. Feel free to swap the cami with a soft, comfy t-shirt. I chose black because wearing black is my idea of timeless, chic, and uncomplicated but sometimes I like to add a pop of color to feel more energetic.

This burgundy casual blazer from Max Fashion India lifts up my mood and helps me feel fresh and enthusiastic. I say, the most essential piece of clothing is a blazer (casual or professional) in these times. If you are in the US, you can find a similar blazer at Banana Republic.

Also, if you are a sweatpants kind of person, skip that short for your favorite sweatpants. I got these white sweatpants from Rue21 – these are my favorite – they are so soft and comfortable that I can’t wait to wear them again.

***Did you like the slippers more than the PJs? These slippers are my new favorite and I love the way they feel and look***

To look fully dressed and to keep our secret a secret, I wore hoop earrings, a necklace from H&M and a very minimal makeup. Little do my colleagues know I am in half pajamas – except I tell them anyway 😝

2. Pullover Cropped Sweater and Leggings

For the first couple weeks of quarantine, I did not have a good schedule. Given the uncertainty of how long I have to work from home, I decided to wake up early on 3 days a week and go out for a brisk walk before starting to work.

The way I get dressed on those days is by putting on an exercise outfit. I will wear a pullover sweater or hoodie over my workout set just in case I have a Zoom call. I got this pullover cropped sweater (available in stores) and leggings from Victoria’s Secret store.

By the way, this pullover cropped sweater is super silky and loose enough to not feel suffocating. As per my mood, I complete my look with simple earrings and a necklace.

I love that I get to wear leggings and my slippers (I believe in embracing this new WFH lifestyle to keep a positive outlook). Also, let’s face it, dressing down sometimes gives you more time to complete other tasks. Sweats and leggings don’t even require ironing so you can get an early start to your busy day. It’s a time saver.

While it is tempting to wear sweatpants and pajamas all day every day, some may prefer to wear business casuals or formal wear. Feel free to switch up your look based on your mood like I switch up my looks so that loungewear does not become your everyday look.

If you want to get dressed up to maintain the sense of normalcy, shop your own closet, rediscover those dresses you wore last summer or learn to tie a knot on your favorite blouse. While you do that, remember that colors greatly influence your mood. Go for a hotter shade to lift up your spirit and get your adrenaline pumping. On the other hand, cooler shades like blues and grays will make you feel relaxed. And do not forget to have fun!

Thank you for reading my blog. Are you a pajama person or a sweats person? Let me know in the comments below.

Here’s the tip for the week-

Tip #4: There are no hard and fast rules to dressing for work from home. Feel free to choose and wear an outfit that puts you in a right mindset. Use a blazer over your pajamas or t-shirt to look professional or wear your pullover sweater and accessorize the outfit. A no-makeup makeup look with a nude lipstick shade will make you look fully dressed for your office work.
